SITE UPDATE: Still slowly chugging along

We are now in day eight of PNR’s catastrophic system crash, and over the weekend, some slow progress has been made.

I did make the discovery that it was NOT hard drive failure that caused the crash, but a power supply failure. So thankfully most of our stuff is still intact, even if I can’t get to it right now. I’ve got about 50 programs to redownload and reinstall now, since Carbonite’s backup was woefully under-supplied – I really need to keep a much closer eye on this.

Also, the new machine is giving me all kinds of fits, insisting on installing programs on the wrong drive – it keeps wanting to put everything on the solid state drive, which is minuscule compared to the hard drive, and every time I try to load a new program, I have to change a bunch of settings to make it go where I want it to go, and even then, sometimes it does what it’s told and sometimes the computer does whatever the hell it wants…very frustrating…

And of course, there’s no easy way to move the programs from one drive to another. I purchased a program that purported to make this painful process much easier, but for some reason, it’s not seeing anything on the old drive, even though it’s connected exactly the way it’s supposed to. I’m going to be very pissed if this turns out to be a total waste of our funds…I have an inquiry into the software people, so hopefully we’ll get it sorted out, and if we do, hopefully rebuilding stuff will be much easier than it has been.

I’ve reinstalled our main production software, but for some reason, neither program is finding half of the special features they’re supposed to, and I think this is again related to the way this computer is insisting on installing stuff on the solid state drive. It’s so damn frustrating. I’m also running into an issue with OneDrive, which for some reason seems to be mirroring EVERYTHING, even though it’s set to only do what it’s told. So that is causing massive slowdowns on the system as well…

As the week progresses, I expect to bring things back online, starting either tomorrow with Tuesday Digidex or Wednesday with Ring Around The Rosie, plus last week’s Subject:CINEMA, which I discovered over the weekend DID save and which now still needs to be edited and posted, hopefully either tonight or tomorrow. I have yet to check out the sound equipment with the new beastie as well, because see aforementioned problems with the production software…

My biggest problem is that my vacation is now over – I have to go back to work for a few days today, although I am off later this week, using some personal time to continue the rebuild as well as having another medical appointment. Hopefully over the next three evenings, and then over my upcoming five day weekend – I’m off Thursday and Friday, then the weekend and MLK Day holiday – I will finally be able to get things back to resembling some sort of normal chaos around here…

Another update soon…thanks for your patience…:-)
